Pornography is being distributed through the Amazon Kindle e-book reader, Reuters reports . Apple and Google are concerned about this fact, for the platforms of which there are Kindle applications.
Reuters received information about the presence of pornographic images in the service from two unnamed women. Their underage children discovered Kindle posts titled "75 Hot Full Nude Blonde Photos" and "Real Erotica: Naked Amateurs – Volume 4". Some of the images included in them feature people having sexual intercourse.
Parents paid $10 a month for the service, as it gave them access to "age-appropriate" content for their kids that can't be found on an Amazon Kids+ kids subscription.
Amazon promised to deal with the problem and stressed that they take it seriously. Google and Apple have said that pornographic content is unacceptable on their platforms, and experts are in close contact with the Kindle developer to bring the app into line with company policies.
The content in question was posted using the Kindle Direct Publishing program, which allows users to publish almost instantly. Creators can distribute their content on the Kindle Unlimited platform. Under Direct Publishing's policies, material deemed offensive or inappropriate, including pornography, may be refused publication.
On April 6, Roskomnadzor discovered child porn in fan fiction based on the Harry Potter and Star Wars universes. He filed a complaint against the American samizdat platform Archive of Our Own and demanded that the pornographic stories be removed. Otherwise, the department threatens to block the site.
