Bellona Environmental Foundation declared “undesirable” in Russia

The activity of the international non-governmental organization Miljøstiftelsen Bellona (Bellona Environmental Foundation, Bellona Environmental Association) has been declared undesirable in Russia. It is reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

“It has been established that the activities of the organization are aimed at undermining the Russian economy, discrediting the domestic and foreign policies pursued by the authorities, destabilizing the socio-political situation in the country and posing a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

According to information from the website of the foundation itself, Bellona is an independent non-profit foundation working to solve global climate and environmental problems. The foundation was founded in 1986 and has about 60 employees. The Foundation has offices in Oslo, Brussels and Berlin. Until March 2022, the organization also had offices in Murmansk and St. Petersburg.

In the first half of April, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized the organization "Russia-EU Civil Society Forum" as "undesirable" in Russia.
