Yaroslav Shirshikov, who was the first to report the detention of Evan Gershkovich, was sent to a pre-trial detention center for “justifying terrorism”

The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg arrested Yaroslav Shirshikov, a PR man and author of the Hussar Ballad Telegram channel, accused of “justifying terrorism.” He will stay in jail until June 17.

Shirshikov was detained the day before, on April 18. Before that, the FSB conducted a search at his house. The reason for the persecution of the Yekaterinburger was his posts about the murder of "military correspondent" Vladlen Tatarsky in a cafe in St. Petersburg. Shirshikov was the first to report the arrest of The Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg on March 30. Later, the American was arrested for two months in a case of espionage and the collection of information constituting a "state secret." He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Shirshikov's lawyer previously stated that his client "does not deny the act of publishing [posts about Tatarsky], but at the same time explains that he has never justified or supported terrorism in any form."
