G7 countries plan to ban almost all exports to Russia – Bloomberg

The United States and other key allies of Ukraine are going to ban the export of almost all their goods to Russia, reports Bloomberg.

According to sources of the publication, this idea is being discussed in a group consisting of representatives of the authorities of the seven countries included in the Big Seven. At the G7 summit, which will be held in Japan in May, it is planned to involve all countries that are members of the European Union in this initiative.

If this proposal is accepted, it will completely change the regime of sanctions against Russia from prohibitive to permissive. Thus, only specific export items will be allowed, and all others will be prohibited. The list of allowed products will probably include medical and agricultural products.

Sanctions against Russia have reduced the export of EU countries to the Russian Federation by almost half. However, the Russian Federation still receives $66 billion worth of goods from Europe, the US, Canada and Japan. In turn, Russia has limited its exports to the EU and periodically restricts electricity supplies.
