Russian sailor sentenced to 9 years in prison in desertion case

The Barnaul garrison court sentenced to 9 years in prison in the case of desertion of the Russian sailor Yevgeny Zelenkov, who participated in the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the court.

According to investigators, on October 31, 2022, he did not come to the service without good reason. On December 1, he was detained and taken to the military commandant's office. On December 15, the situation repeated itself, the sailor again did not come to the military unit. At the end of January 2023, Zelenkov was again detained.

The press service of the court said that Zelenkov was sentenced for the totality of the crimes imputed to him. Prior to that, in March 2023, the military was sentenced to two years and one month in prison for leaving the unit without permission. In September 2022, Zelenkov was sentenced to a month of restriction of freedom under the same article. Then, when sentencing, the court took into account that the serviceman participated in the war in Ukraine.
