In the Irkutsk region, the court continues to consider criminal cases of mass rape of prisoners of the Angarsk colony No. 15 in a pre-trial detention center. According to Taiga. Info”, the prosecutor's office managed to remove the victim's representative from the proceedings. This happened after a witness during the meeting stated that during the torture, employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service entered the cells, but they were not prosecuted.
Recall that in April 2020, convicts were taken out of the Angarsk colony after a protest and massively tortured in other institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
A stream of complaints about torture and rape in Irkutsk colonies and pre-trial detention centers began to come after the “riot” in the Angarsk IK-15 in the spring of 2020. On April 9, one of the prisoners told his cellmates that he had been beaten by a guard. The convict broke the glass of the surveillance camera and tried to "open himself" (cut his veins). Another 20 convicts did the same.
The head of the colony Andrei Vereshchak asked one of the "authoritative" prisoners to send everyone to the barracks, promising to resolve the conflict. However, on the morning of April 10, the first batch of special forces of the Federal Penitentiary Service entered the territory of the colony, then the OMON of the Russian Guard arrived. About 500 prisoners were taken to the parade ground, they were kept in the ring until the evening.
Leonid Sagalakov, head of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Irkutsk region, came out to the convicts. “I ***** [will] fuck you all. You will ***** [have sex],” he shouted to the prisoners, according to one of the eyewitnesses, the victim in the torture case Yevgeny Yurchenko.
After the "revolt" was suppressed , the beatings continued. The prisoners were driven through the line of security forces, who showered them with blows. Some convicts were dragged aside and beaten even harder.
About a hundred prisoners were taken out of IK-15 to Irkutsk SIZO-1 and Angarsk SIZO-6, where some of them were brutally tortured and raped, demanding to take the blame for organizing the "riot" or to give other testimony necessary to the security forces.
The case of mass torture in SIZO-1, SIZO-6 and IK-15 was opened only at the beginning of 2021. Also, the facts of violence were recorded in the Irkutsk IK-6.
The Kuibyshevsky District Court of Irkutsk is considering at least six cases of violence against prisoners of the Angarsk IK-15, committed in the Irkutsk SIZO-1. It is not yet possible to establish the exact number of victims due to the fact that cases are being considered behind closed doors. At least 30 casualties were previously reported.
