The Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the Japanese organization “Union of the inhabitants of the islands of Chisima and Habomai” as “undesirable”

The Prosecutor General's Office recognized the "Union of the inhabitants of the islands of Chisima and Habomai" (Japan) as an "undesirable organization".

The department claims that the goal of the organization is to seize part of its territory from Russia – the islands of Kunashir, Iturup and the Lesser Kuril ridge.

“For a long time, the Union has been forming a negative opinion about the Russian Federation, which, in the context of growing anti-Russian sentiment in Japan, increases the risks of destabilizing the situation around the Kuril Islands,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

The union, recognized as undesirable, was lobbying for the idea of returning the Kuril Islands (Chishima) and the Habomai group of islands to Japan.
