Twitter has removed the “publicly funded media” tag. She disappeared from RT, TASS and other propagandists

Twitter has stopped using the "publicly funded media" label.

She, among other things, lost the accounts of RT, TASS and Vesti. In addition, it was removed from Russian government departments, such as the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as from the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev.

In addition, such notes have disappeared from various Western media, which received them recently. Among them are the American National Public Radio (NPR), the British broadcaster BBC and the Canadian CBC.

Earlier in April, NPR and CBC stopped using Twitter, saying the label they received didn't reflect the nature of their governance structure.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Elon Musk, the owner of the social network, said that the company simply wants to pursue a "truthful" and "objective" policy. He promised to think about de-flagging public funding from Western media accounts and replacing it with "publicly funded media." So far, profiles with such a label have not appeared.

Twitter also began to remove the blue checkmarks to the left of account names that confirmed that the profile was maintained by a real person or was maintained by officials of the specified company. Now user verification is carried out only for money and costs $8 per month.

The BBC noted that in recent months, Twitter has become a platform for aggressive rhetoric, trolling, hate speech and propaganda information campaigns. Moderators used to prevent the distribution of such content, but when Elon Musk acquired the company, he reduced their number to a minimum.

In addition, it was reported that Musk demanded to change the algorithm of the social network so that his tweets were shown first in the feed. He gave instructions to block journalists who did not cover his activities in a positive way. In addition, Twitter searches again began to show accounts of Russian government departments that were not previously displayed in it.
