Former Moscow police officer Semiel Wedel (Sergei Klokov) was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony under an article about “fakes” about the Russian army, Mediazona reports from the courtroom. The reason for the accusation was a telephone conversation. The court also banned Vedel from working in law enforcement for four years.
According to investigators, in March 2022, Vedel, who worked as a technician in the capital’s headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, discussed the war in three telephone conversations with friends and colleagues, in particular, he said that the Russian authorities underestimate the death toll, spoke about the killings of civilians, called Russia “a country of killer."
These conversations were heard by an investigator who was listening to a policeman's phone as part of an investigation into an old case of the murder of three policemen during the escape of a person under investigation. This happened 20 years ago, and the investigators believed that Vedel might know something about this case. The policeman was arrested on March 18 last year.
Semiel Wedel officially took this name in 2005, but the case file appears under the former – Sergey Klokov. It is also known that he is a native of the Ukrainian city of Irpin.
