At least three employees of the Russian Embassy in Finland worked as spies – Yle

At least three employees of the Russian embassy in Finland actually worked as spies, collecting information for Russian intelligence. This is stated in the investigation of Yle and Spotlight.

According to journalists, these officials officially work at the embassy, but in reality they are subordinate to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the Main Directorate of the General Staff of Military Intelligence (known as the GRU) and the Federal Security Service (FSB). One of them is named Dmitry Otorochkin (pictured). He worked at the embassy in Helsinki from 2014 to 2018 as secretary of the diplomatic mission. This allowed him to be more free to engage in intelligence activities for the Foreign Intelligence Service. From Helsinki, Otorochkin moved to the Russian embassy in Copenhagen. In the spring of 2022, he was expelled from Denmark.

Two more people identified by Yle were expelled from Finland last April. They are 60-year-old Vladimir Komarov, who worked as an adviser to the mission in Helsinki, and 37-year-old Dmitry Dvinyaninov, an assistant to the diplomatic mission. Both were GRU officers. Neither the spies themselves nor the Russian embassy in Helsinki gave any comments to journalists.
