Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan became ill during a live interview on Turkish television. The interview, which began an hour and a half later than planned, was eventually interrupted.
After some time, Erdogan reappeared on the screen and said that he was suffering from "stomach flu".
A post later appeared on Erdogan's Twitter stating that he "experienced some minor inconvenience due to his workload." According to the report, the Turkish leader canceled all events scheduled for April 26 and stayed at home on the advice of doctors, but will return to his election campaign the next day.
On May 14, parliamentary and presidential elections will be held in Turkey. 69-year-old Erdogan, who intends to be re-elected for another term, is opposed by 74-year-old Kemal Kılıçdaroglu, a single candidate from six political parties. According to polls at the beginning of April, Kılıçdaroğlu was ahead of Erdoğan by 10 percentage points.
