In Novosibirsk, deputies approved the abolition of direct elections of the mayor

The Council of Deputies of Novosibirsk approved in two readings changes to the city's charter, which provide for the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of the city.

Now the mayor of the city will be elected by the council of deputies of Novosibirsk, and not directly by residents.

In February of this year, the deputies of the legislative assembly of the Novosibirsk region adopted in the final reading a bill providing for the abolition of direct elections of the mayor in Novosibirsk and the Koltsovo science city.

The law will take effect after the term of office of the current mayors of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokt, and the science city of Koltsovo, Nikolai Krasnikov, officially ends.
