Prime Minister of Moldova said that there will be “sanctions” for wearing the St. George ribbon on Victory Day

The Prime Minister of Moldova said that on Victory Day the country will “sanction” people for wearing the St. George ribbon. This was announced by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing all the necessary regulations, then they will announce exactly how they will document and sanction those who do not comply with the law. I want to note that the decision of the Constitutional Court contradicts and does not change anything compared to May 9 last year. These symbols are prohibited, their use will be authorized,” Rechan told reporters.

In the first half of April, the Constitutional Court of Moldova ruled that the ban on wearing the St. George ribbon and the symbols "V" and "Z" was introduced in accordance with the law. At the same time, the court noted that people could be punished for this symbolism only if it was used to justify or glorify military aggression and war crimes.

Last year, the organizers of the Victory Day in Almaty (Kazakhstan) called the St. George ribbon "provoking symbols" and urged citizens not to use it.

In 2021, the use of St. George ribbons at public events was banned in Latvia. Last April, Lithuania also banned the public display of the St. George Ribbon and Z-symbols.
