Putin signed the law on the deprivation of acquired Russian citizenship for “discrediting” the Russian army

Vladimir Putin signed a new version of the law "On Citizenship", according to which acquired Russian citizenship can be deprived of criminal liability under articles on military "fake" (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and "discrediting" the army (Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). The new law is published on the website of legal information.

Also, now they can deprive acquired citizenship due to accusations of desertion, the rehabilitation of Nazism, involvement in "undesirable" organizations, evading the duties of a "foreign agent" and for repeated violations of the law on rallies.

“Committing actions that pose a threat to the national security of Russia” can also become grounds for deprivation of acquired citizenship. Based on the law, this will not require a court decision, the conclusion will be drawn up by the FSB.

The day before, Putin signed a decree according to which citizens of Ukraine in the occupied territories and holders of DPR and LPR passports must receive Russian citizenship by September 30, 2023. Otherwise, they may be recognized as foreign citizens or stateless persons and deported. The document also contains a clause stating that people who will threaten “national security”, plan extremist and terrorist crimes, can be expelled. Where exactly they are going to be expelled is not specified in the decree.
