Reuters: US seizes Iranian oil on detained tanker

The US seized Iranian oil on a tanker at sea as part of a sanctions enforcement operation. Iran responded by hijacking another oil ship a few days later. It is reported by Reuters, citing three sources and a maritime security firm.

According to sources, Washington took control of the oil cargo aboard the Suez Rajan tanker from the Marshall Islands. The tanker was located near southern Africa.

On April 27, the US Navy said Iran had seized a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Oman. Iranian authorities claimed that the tanker collided with an Iranian vessel and was trying to leave the scene. As IRNA reported , as a result of the collision, several crew members were injured and three were missing.
