The Warsaw City Hall ordered employees of the school at the Russian Embassy to leave the building within seven hours, before 19:00 Moscow time. Before that, representatives of the mayor's office tried to get into the school grounds, but they were refused to let them in. As a result, they broke the gate with the participation of the police and entered the school.
Lukasz Jasina, spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry , said that the Warsaw authorities were seizing the building in favor of the state, as it was illegally occupied. Earlier, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that a case be opened about “two real estate objects that are not used for diplomatic and consular purposes and are in the illegal possession of the Russian Federation.” One of them is a school, and the second is a now unoccupied building in which Russian diplomats used to live.
Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreev accused the Polish authorities of violating the Vienna Convention. He stated that the Russian side would submit to the demands of Poland, but threatened to retaliate. “What kind of reaction it will be – I don’t want to anticipate. The decision on this matter will be made at the center,” Andreev said. He did not specify which center he was talking about.
In March 2022, a month after the start of the war in Ukraine, the Polish authorities blocked the bank accounts of the Russian embassy in Poland. The reason was that these funds could be used to sponsor terrorism. A month later, the Polish prosecutor's office seized money from the accounts of the embassy and the Russian trade mission.
