“I didn’t notice the sword in my hands.” Daria Trepova gave her first interview from the pre-trial detention center

Daria Trepova, who is accused of murdering "military officer" Vladlen Tatarsky, answered the questions of the St. Petersburg Telegram channel "Rotonda" in a letter from the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center.

“Over and over again I scroll through all the events in my head. Kanye West once said: “I did not bring you peace, but a sword.” And I keep thinking how it happened that I did not notice the sword in my hands. <…> The most unbearable thing is that they killed a man with my hands and maimed dozens. I have always been against violence,” she wrote.

Trepova writes that she regrets what happened and would like to organize a fundraiser for recovery for the victims of the explosion in the cafe:

I deeply regret what happened, pray for the health of the victims and will try to organize a fundraiser for the recovery of the victims of the tragedy. So that my regret does not look cynical, I will add that I survived, apparently, purely by accident.

She also spoke about the poor conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center and that for a month lawyers were never allowed to see her:

“I was alone in the cell for the first ten days – it’s unbearable. At first I had neither a book nor cigarettes. During the day you can not sleep under the covers. It's cold in the cell. I covered myself with a jacket and looked at the wall. Now a girl has been placed with me, she has been here for three years. And I watch the Karusel channel a lot. On others, there is a risk of seeing footage, you know where. It's sad that I can no longer lie at home and watch cartoons with my sister. Defenders are almost not allowed into Lefortovo. They came from the UK three or four times, and I have not seen a lawyer until now.”

Darya Trepova, 26, was detained on April 3 in an apartment in St. Petersburg. She is accused of bringing a figurine stuffed with explosives to a "creative evening" of the propagandist Tatarsky in a cafe on Universitetskaya embankment. Trepova presented the figurine to Tatarsky, shortly after that there was an explosion. The propagandist died, more than 30 people were injured.
