"Rossiyskaya Gazeta" published an article under the headline "The British Ministry of Defense admitted that some of the weapons transferred to Ukraine did not reach the recipient," which says :
“Part of the weapons transferred to Ukraine were resold and did not reach the front line. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Deputy Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom, James Hippie.
“(Cases – Ed.) The redirection of weapons donated to Ukraine from the front line is taking place,” he said.
In fact, the Scottish opposition Alba MP Kenny MacAskill asked the government this question:
“How does the Secretary of Defense assess the proportion of UK military aid to Ukraine that was resold before reaching the front lines?”
For Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace, Junior Minister (i.e. Deputy Minister) for the Armed Forces James Hippie answered:
“We have robust procedures in place to ensure that all equipment and ammunition passing through the International Donor Coordination Center is handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Despite anecdotal reports, cases of diversion of equipment provided to Ukraine away from the front line are extremely rare.”
That is, Hippie did not give a 100% guarantee that all the British weapons transferred to Ukraine, without exception, ended up at the front, but stated that all of them were received by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and cases of their theft after the transfer are very rare. Formally, of course, he admitted such a possibility, but Rossiyskaya Gazeta changed the meaning of his answer to almost the opposite.
TASS, to which Rossiyskaya Gazeta refers, quite adequately translated Hippie’s answer, but provided the publication with a misleading headline “The British Ministry of Defense stated that some of the weapons transferred to Ukraine did not reach the front”: the deputy minister claimed that only an insignificant amount did not reach the front part of British military aid.
