Film director Yevgenia Berkovich was charged with “justifying terrorism,” her mother said

Theater director Yevgenia Berkovich was charged with a criminal case under the article on justifying terrorism. As her mother, human rights activist Elena Efros, reported on Facebook, the case was initiated because of the performance Finist the Clear Falcon.

“They came to our house with a search,” Efros wrote. In the next post, she asks her friends to contact Berkovich, who “does not pick up the phone,” from which we can conclude that the security forces came to search her mother’s apartment, and the director herself is in another place.

“Finist Yasny Sokol” is a performance that Berkovich staged in Moscow for the independent theater project “Daughters of Soso”. The performance based on the play by Svetlana Petriychuk tells about women who decide to marry Islamic militants and go to live with them in Syria. The premiere took place in December 2020, in 2022 the performance received the Golden Mask award in two categories.
