Playwright Svetlana Petriychuk was detained as a suspect in the case of the play “Finist Yasny Sokol”

Svetlana Petriychuk, the author of the play Finist the Clear Falcon, was detained as a suspect in the case of justifying terrorism. This is reported by OVD-Info with reference to lawyer Yulia Tregubova. Earlier, the director of the play, Yevgenia Berkovich, was detained in the same case.

On May 4, the apartments of Berkovich and her mother, Elena Efros, were searched. Efros announced the initiation of a criminal case to justify terrorism in connection with the performance. Berkovich herself was detained in Moscow and taken to the Investigative Committee for interrogation. Petriychuk was seized at Sheremetyevo Airport. Initially, Petriychuk and Berkovich were witnesses in the case.

In 2022, the play Finist Yasny Sokol won the Golden Mask theater award in the nominations Drama/playwright and Drama/costume designer. Berkovich staged this performance in Moscow for the independent theater project Soso's Daughters. It tells about women who decide to marry Islamic militants and go to live with them in Syria. The premiere took place in December 2020.
