Bali Governor Wayan Coster announced quotas for foreign tourists, detikNews reports . He stressed that many visitors to the island violate the rules of conduct and behave "naughty". The decision to introduce quotas was made precisely in connection with the large number of such cases. Since January 2023, 101 tourists have been deported from Indonesia, Coster said. Most of them – 27 people – are from Russia.
Koster argues that from now on, the Indonesian authorities will not promote mass tourism. The country will introduce a quota system that will operate for the next hundred years. The Governor believes that tourists will have to register for entry a year before the planned trip. The new rules are planned to be coordinated, including with the Indonesian Association of Hotels and Restaurants.
Although Koster speaks of Russian tourists in Bali in a less flattering way, official relations between Russia and Indonesia have only strengthened in recent months. So, at the end of March, the countries signed an agreement on mutual extradition. According to Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko, it "regulates the extradition of criminals for prosecution or execution of sentences." From the Indonesian side, the agreement was signed, among other things, by representatives of Bali.
