In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a man was detained who "may be involved" in the attempt on the life of former writer Zakhar Prilepin. This was announced by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk. According to her, three police officers made the arrest "in hot pursuit." The detainee is born in 1993, previously had a criminal record.
On the afternoon of May 6, near the town of Bor in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a car was blown up in which Prilepin was located. According to pro-government news agencies, a driver was inside with him, he died. Some media report that this is a 27-year-old native of Luhansk Alexander Shubin. He fought on the side of the "LNR". Prilepin himself allegedly survived, but was seriously wounded – both of his legs were broken. According to preliminary data cited by media outlets close to the Kremlin, there was an improvised explosive device in the car, which was detonated remotely.
Prilepin is a former writer who has supported Vladimir Putin's actions since 2014. After the annexation of Crimea, he said that he had rethought his attitude towards the modern Russian government and declared a "personal truce" to it. Two years later, he went to fight against Ukraine and, in his own words, "managed a combat unit that killed people in large numbers." He spent two years in the war, and in January 2023, Prilepin returned, signing a contract with the Federal Service of the National Guard Troops.
