AP Ukrainian correspondents Mstislav Chernov and Yevhen Maloletka win Pulitzer Prize for reporting from besieged Mariupol

The Associated Press team won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for reporting from Russian-sieged Mariupol. The award was shared by three Ukrainians: documentary maker Mstislav Chernov, photographer Evgeny Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko, as well as French journalist Laurie Hinnant.

AP employees became the last representatives of foreign media to leave Mariupol, which was subjected to massive shelling. Chernov and Maloletka got out of the city on March 15, 2022, having managed to remove the consequences of the blow to the maternity hospital.

The Pulitzer Prize for News Photography also went to a group of seven Associated Press correspondents, including Yevgeny Maloletka. The New York Times won the International Reporting Award for reporting on the war in Ukraine, including an investigation into the killings of Bucha residents.
