Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested in Pakistan. The security forces tried to seize the politician several times already, but his supporters prevented them

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested outside the High Court in Islamabad, where he attended a hearing on his case. Armed security forces in armored vehicles seized him as he entered the compound.

Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf party called on its supporters to take to the streets, with protests reportedly taking place in the cities of Lahore and Peshawar.

Khan served as prime minister from 2018 until April 2022, when he received a vote of no confidence. Subsequently, he was accused of corruption, terrorism, as well as selling gifts that he received from foreign delegations during the years of premiership. The list of these gifts includes several watches, including one worth $300,000, diamond jewelry and dinner sets.

Khan was banned from participating in elections and holding public office. The ex-premier himself claims that the cases against him are politically motivated. The police have already tried to detain Khan at his residence in Lahore, but they were prevented by supporters of the politician.
