Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan handed out money to children right at the polling station where he came to vote. A video appeared on social networks in which Erdogan, standing next to his wife, counts out banknotes and gives them to children who approach him.
Erdogan voted at a polling station in Istanbul's Uskudar district. In anticipation of his arrival, increased security measures were taken there: journalists were searched , and all entrances to the polling station were blocked.
Erdogan's main rival in the presidential elections, Kemal Kılıçdaroglu, voted in Ankara.
On May 14, Turkey holds presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously.
