High-ranking Russian officials were banned from resigning during a full-scale war. Important stories write about this, citing four sources: a former FSB officer working with one of the Russian governors, a political strategist, as well as two people close to high-ranking officials from the presidential administration (AP).
An FSB source said he knew of at least two such cases. According to him, in both cases we are talking about governors. The former security official also claims that they were “not just forbidden [to quit], but hinted at criminal cases.” One of the two interlocutors of Important Stories, close to the AP, said that after the outbreak of a full-scale war, many officials really wanted to leave their posts. In the Presidential Administration, according to him, such intentions are regarded as a betrayal. Because of this, officials were given the task of "demonstrating unity."
At the same time, the sources of Important Stories emphasize that the ban on dismissal is unofficial and illegal. For this reason, some officials are allowed to leave their posts as an exception – for health reasons or because of corruption, for example.
