Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences: 50,000 researchers left Russia in five years

More than 50,000 researchers have left Russia in the last five years. According to Interfax, this was stated by the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Parmon.

“Now, when everyone is talking about the fact that technological sovereignty, the future depends on science-intensive technologies, the issue is that Russia as a state has missed those who can do it,” the academician said.

According to Parmon, in order to reach the level of technologically advanced countries and attract capable people into science, it is necessary to increase research funding by about three times.

He also noted that the current rule, according to which the salary of scientists should not be less than double the average salary in the region, is discriminatory.

“Naturally, there is a question of salary discrimination for scientists in regions and megacities, because 200% of the average salary is not serious, science is science everywhere,” Parmon emphasized.
