UK to ban import of Russian diamonds

The UK will impose a ban on the import of Russian diamonds, writes Sky News with reference to the office of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Also, import restrictions are mentioned on the website of the British Parliament. The diamond ban is part of a broader package of sanctions that the prime minister and his allies are discussing at the annual G7 summit in Tokyo.

The UK sanctions, according to the plan, will also apply to imports of copper, aluminum and nickel of Russian origin.

European Council President Charles Michel, speaking before the summit in Japan, also said that the EU intends to impose a ban on the import of Russian diamonds: “We will limit the trade in Russian diamonds. Russian diamonds are not eternal.”

Earlier today it became known that the UK imposed sanctions against 86 legal entities and individuals associated with the Russian energy, metallurgy, defense industry, transport and the financial sector of Russia. The restrictions included Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank.

Sanctions were also imposed on the president and CEO of the Kalashnikov concern, Alan Lushnikov, and its CEO, Vladimir Lepin. Among the individuals subject to restrictions are also the founder and chairman of the board of directors of the Russian Copper Company Igor Altushkin, the Russian-appointed occupation head of the Zaporozhye NPP Oleg Romanenko, as well as 13 members of the board of directors of Gazpromneft and 5 members of the board of directors of Transneft.
