Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia State Secretary Pyotr Kucherenko died while returning from a working trip to Cuba. As reported on the website of the department, this happened on May 20.
The official became ill on the plane on which he flew home along with other members of the Russian delegation. The plane was landed at the airport of Mineralnye Vody, but the doctors who arrived could not save Kucherenko and he died. He was 46 years old. The causes of death are not named.
Kucherenko has served as deputy minister since March 2020, he oversaw personnel issues and the economic activities of the ministry. He was married to singer Diana Gurtskaya, who is a member of the Public Chamber.
Before the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Kucherenko worked for eight years as the head of the staff of the Federation Council committee on constitutional legislation.
