Former Turkish presidential candidate from the Ata alliance, Sinan Ogan, called on his supporters to vote for Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the second round of the presidential election. This is reported by the publication Bianet.
Ogan won over 5% of the vote in the first round. During today's press conference, he thanked his voters and team members, after which he urged them to vote for the incumbent head of state, against whose policy he spoke earlier, saying that he would support the opposition candidate.
The main reason for his decision was that the ruling coalition won a parliamentary majority in the elections, Ogan explained at a press conference.
On May 15, the CEC of Turkey published the results of the first round of the presidential elections after processing 100% of the ballots. The incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan scored 49.51%, the candidate from the united opposition Kemal Kilicdaroglu – 44.88%. The second round of elections will take place on May 28.
The first round was not without public scandals. So, Erdogan handed out money to children right at the polling station where he came to vote. In addition, there were statements about Moscow's interference in the elections. Two days before the vote, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu accused Russia of editing videos that defame candidates, using content made using Deep Fake technology, and conspiracies.
