Artillery and mortar shelling continues in the Belgorod region after the raid of the DRG, as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 12 civilians were injured, the governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote about this in his Telegram channel. At the same time, there are no plans to hold a special meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Belgorod Region; a planned meeting will take place towards the end of the week, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia.
Peskov also said that the Kremlin is "deeply concerned" about the situation after the penetration of the sabotage and reconnaissance group into the territory of the Russian region.
The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under articles on “terrorist attack”, “encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers”, “attempted murder”, “deliberate destruction of property” and “illicit trafficking in weapons and explosives”. The message of the Investigative Committee says that residential and administrative buildings, as well as civilian infrastructure facilities, were subjected to mortar and artillery shelling, and several civilians were injured. According to Gladkov, 12 civilians were wounded.
Now residents of at least nine settlements have been evacuated from the region. 29 private houses and three cars were damaged, UAVs attacked administrative buildings, two “arrivals” from a mortar at a border checkpoint were recorded in Shebekino. The governor also announced an information attack, according to him, the authorities were faced with the following messages: “tanks in the Belgorod region”, “my wife is at some airport with some things”, “it’s definitely someone’s wife, but definitely not mine” , "nuclear catastrophe", "evacuation of Shebekino and Belgorod". Also, his assistants were called with a demand to "stop activity in Grayvoron and immediately surrender."
In addition, a video with an unprepared bomb shelter is being distributed on the network, in the footage a man says: “The video is especially for Gladkov – look at the condition of the shelter. And what do you want us to do about it?!" When exactly the footage was taken is not specified.
Back in 2019, Belgorod residents complained that they had no information about prepared bomb shelters, and those that were known were in poor condition. Blogger Ilya Varlamov filmed an issue in Belgorod with the mayor, then one of the residents complained that in the event of a bombing, people have nowhere to hide.
During the war, in some cities of Russia, including Moscow, they began to prepare bomb shelters. It turned out that some of them were unsuitable for use: the basements were flooded, they had no light, supplies, and the walls were covered with mold. Later it became known that the addresses of the bomb shelters in which the inhabitants of Moscow could take refuge in the event of a nuclear strike, as well as information about their number and readiness for use, are "state secrets". This was stated by Deputy Mayor of Moscow Pyotr Biryukov in response to a corresponding appeal from the Moscow City Duma deputy from the Communist Party Yevgeny Stupin. Russian deputies periodically threaten foreign states with nuclear strikes, so the risk of retaliatory strikes against Moscow is increasing, Stupin specified in his address. He was told that there were protective structures, but information about them was a state secret.
However, in January 2022, even before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, an article appeared in the propaganda publication Gazeta.Ru with the headline: “The Ministry of Emergency Situations told how Russians can find a bomb shelter near their home.” The text denied preparations for a Russian invasion, but also claimed that citizens could find out the addresses of bomb shelters. Retired Major General of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Igor Yakupov stated that "you can find out the addresses of the nearest shelters and shelters at the district training and consultation centers for civil defense."
