The International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS) will not take place this year for security reasons, Kommersant found out. This is the first cancellation of the event in 30 years.
According to the sources of the publication, the event is usually visited by tens of thousands of people a day, the location is open and there are risks of interference with the flight program. “It is probably possible to strengthen security measures, but the use of electronic warfare (electronic warfare equipment) against potential threats from drones would interfere with the flight program and would hardly make sense,” a source close to Rostec told Kommersant.
Several participants of the event interviewed by the publication have already stopped preparations for it. The organizers of the air show did not officially comment on the situation. It is expected that information about the new dates will be announced in the coming days.
