The Rublev Museum announced its readiness to provide the Russian Orthodox Church with a copy of the Holy Trinity icon instead of the original – Interfax

Andrei Mindlin, director of the Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Old Russian Culture and Art, offered to provide a copy of the Holy Trinity icon made by restorer Vasily Kirikov for demonstration on June 4 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Interfax reports.

At the same time, he clarified that so far such a request to the museum has not been received from the Ministry of Culture. Mindlin also noted the need to restore the list of the icon before it can be transferred to the temple.

Earlier, the Tretyakov Gallery refused a request for the issuance of the original icon for display in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Experts decided that his condition did not allow it. Now he is in the restoration workshop for "urgent" restoration.

In the Russian Orthodox Church, according to the head of the expert council of the Moscow Patriarchate on church art, architecture and restoration, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, they treated this with understanding. He also added that the Church is considering the possibility of demonstrating a list of the icon in the church.

The need to transfer the "Holy Trinity" to the Russian Orthodox Church on May 15 was announced by Vladimir Putin. He explained his decision by "numerous requests from Orthodox believers." Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAKh) Alexey Lidov told The Insider that even the transportation of the Trinity threatens with irreparable consequences for her condition.
