The Georgian airline Georgian Airways launches transit flights for Russians through Tbilisi to Europe from June 15. This was announced by the founder of the Georgian carrier Tamaz Gaiashvili.

- Vein,
- Larnaca,
- Thessaloniki
“We will start on June 15th. Let's see how this thing goes. But we think that there will be sufficient demand on these routes. It will be more convenient and faster through Tbilisi than in other directions,” Tamaz Gaiashvili said.
According to Gaiashvili, the final details are still being worked out. The Georgian authorities have not yet commented on the information.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, the EU closed the airspace to Russian aircraft:
“We are imposing a ban on all aircraft owned by Russia, registered in Russia or controlled by Russia. These aircraft will not be able to land, take off or fly over EU territory.”
Last week, the Russian airline Red Wings received permission to fly to Georgia. It will operate flights on the routes Moscow-Kutaisi-Moscow and Sochi-Tbilisi-Sochi. The first Red Wings flight to Georgia will be performed in June.
Earlier, Georgian Georgian Airways and Russian Azimuth received permits for flights between Georgia and Russia.
On May 10, Vladimir Putin abolished the visa regime for Georgian citizens and lifted the ban on direct flights between the countries. The Georgian opposition expressed dissatisfaction with what was happening, several rallies were held in Tbilisi against the resumption of air traffic.
