Japan imposed export sanctions against 80 Russian companies and organizations, including MegaFon, the Skolkovo Foundation and Skoltech (Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology), NPO Lavochkin and KamAZ. The corresponding statement was published on the website of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Sanctions were also imposed against 17 individuals: General Director of the Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Concern Yan Novikov, Commander of the Russian Airborne Forces Mikhail Teplinskiy, Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces Sergey Karakaev, Head of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Nikolai Parshin, were subject to personal restrictions. Lieutenant General and Chief of Staff of the Russian Group of Forces "West" Lieutenant General Mikhail Zusko. In addition, Japan decided to add to the sanctions list the occupation authorities from the "LPR" and "DPR", the Zaporozhye region and Sevastopol. The sanctions also affected the host of the program "60 minutes" on the TV channel "Russia 1" Olga Skabeeva.
The list of companies against which the restrictions apply includes the research and production enterprise "Kontakt", the Research Institute of Electronic and Mechanical Devices, the All-Russian Research Institute "Signal", LLC "Information Technologies Papillon", the Advanced Research Foundation, the Khabarovsk Radio Engineering Plant, the NPO "Radiovolna", the shipbuilding Ak Bars corporation.
On May 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky flew to Japan to take part in the G7 summit. Before that, the Japanese government announced the introduction of additional sanctions against the Russian Federation. In particular, Japanese companies will now be prohibited from providing architectural and engineering services to Russian clients. After the G7 summit, sanctions against the Russian Federation were also imposed by Britain, Canada, the USA and Australia.
