The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case due to the fall of the podium in Rostov-on-Don. Article – the performance of work and the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of a person through negligence.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 26 people became victims of the tragedy – among them one dead woman and 15 children. Most of the children are in serious condition, they are being operated on, the Zvezda TV channel reports.
The tribune collapsed in the multifunctional sports complex "Rowing Canal Don" due to a gust of heavy wind during a children's football match between the school teams of Rostov-on-Don and Bataysk. The game was held among children 12-13 years old.
This multifunctional sports complex was opened in 2018 after reconstruction for more than 800 million rubles. The amount was announced then by the Minister for Physical Culture and Sports of the Rostov Region Samvel Arakelyan.
