The website of the environmental activist organization Greenpeace (www.greenpeace.org) has been blocked in Russia. Roskomsvoboda drew attention to the entry about this in the register of prohibited information.
On May 19, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office recognized Greenpeace's activities as "undesirable". The ministry said the decision was made "among other things because of [Greenpeace's] attempts to interfere in the country's internal affairs." In addition, the organization allegedly sponsors the work of Russian “foreign agents” organizations, and since the beginning of a full-scale war, “is engaged in anti-Russian propaganda.”
At the end of April, the Russian Ecological Society (REO) asked to recognize Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as "foreign agents". The latter actually received this status as a result, but Greenpeace faced more serious consequences, since “undesirable” organizations are prohibited from operating in Russia. The chairman of the REO, Rashid Ismailov, said that he had encountered "unfriendly actions" by Greenpeace and WWF. Both organizations allegedly form "negative public opinion about the actions of the Russian government and companies in the field of nature conservation":
“There was a case when Greenpeace showed a fake image from space of water off the coast of Kamchatka for subsequent false accusations. This has a destructive effect on public opinion, forms false ideas about the work of the authorities. And this is not ecology, but politics.”
