Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, called the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam a "barbaric act." This is stated in the message of the press service of the Kremlin.
“The presidents of Russia and Turkey exchanged views on the situation around Ukraine. Vladimir Putin stated that the Kyiv authorities, at the suggestion of their Western curators, are still making a dangerous bet on the escalation of hostilities, commit war crimes, openly use terrorist methods, and organize sabotage on Russian territory. A good example of this is the barbaric action to destroy the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region, which led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe,” the report says.
The destruction of the dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the morning of June 6, after some time there were reports and videos, according to which the hydroelectric power station completely collapsed and went under water. Ukrhydroenergo said that the hydroelectric power station cannot be restored. The Ukrainian operational command "South" claims that Russian troops blew up the hydroelectric dam. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, specified that, according to preliminary data, this was done by the 205th motorized rifle brigade of the RF Armed Forces. More than 1.5 thousand houses were flooded on the right bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region. Also, after the destruction of the hydroelectric power station, the village of Korsunka on the left bank of the Dnieper completely went under water due to uncontrolled discharge of water from the Kakhovka reservoir.
The Insider drew attention to the fact that a week before the explosion at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the Russian authorities allowed not to investigate accidents at hazardous facilities in the "DPR, LPR", Zaporozhye region and Kherson region, which occurred as a result of "military actions" and terrorist attacks. The exact cause of the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is still unknown. At the same time, the residents of Novaya Kakhovka heard explosions before the disaster and saw a signal flare, they discussed what had happened in the city’s Telegram channels even before the appearance of media reports.
