Ex-governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, whose son escaped from house arrest in Italy, was elected a senator

The Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory elected ex-Governor Alexander Uss a member of the Federation Council. Earlier, his candidacy was nominated by the regional branch of United Russia and a group of 11 deputies of five parliamentary parties.

In April, Uss reported that he had received an offer from Vladimir Putin to work "at the federal level", therefore, being a governor, he resigned.

Shortly before this, Uss recorded a video message in which he thanked everyone who was worried about his son Artem, who was arrested in Italy at the request of the United States and then escaped from house arrest. He expressed special gratitude to Vladimir Putin, saying that he is not "just the head of our state, he is a man with a big and open heart."

The son of the governor, Artem Uss, was detained in Italy in October 2022, and in March 2023, a court in Milan approved his extradition to the United States. Two days later, the Russian escaped from house arrest. After that, the Italian Ministry of Justice initiated disciplinary proceedings against three judges for placing Uss under house arrest and wearing an electronic bracelet in November 2022, and local media wrote about the “failure” of the Italian special services.

At the end of May, the Wall Street Journal wrote that Uss was able to escape from arrest in Italy with the help of a Serbian criminal group.
