NATO troops may be stationed in Sweden before its official entry into the alliance, the country’s authorities said

The Swedish authorities allow the deployment of NATO troops on its territory before the country officially joins the alliance. The reason is the threats from Russia. This is stated in an article by Dagens Nyheter, written by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Defense Minister Paul Jonsson. Meduza drew attention to the material.

“Russia has shown that it is ready to take very large military and political risks in order to achieve its geopolitical goals. Since it is impossible to say where the limits of President Vladimir Putin's territorial ambitions lie, the [Sweden] government decided that the country's armed forces could make preparations with NATO member countries.

In light of the serious situation in our immediate vicinity, the government has decided that the Swedish Armed Forces can train with NATO and with countries that are members of NATO to ensure future joint operations. The preparation may consist in the temporary placement of equipment and personnel of other countries on the territory of Sweden. We don't just hope for the best, we also need to plan for the worst. In the event of a crisis or war, we must be able to quickly bring the military resources of other countries into our territory, which requires planning, preparation and practice.
