According to the Kherson regional administration, the area of territories flooded as a result of the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station has almost halved.
The water continues to drain away. At the peak, 139 sq. km, now – already 77.78 sq. km. As the administration notes, on June 10, the water began to leave Nikolayevka, Lvovo and Olkovka. These are the villages of the Berislav region.
At the same time, on the right bank of the Dnieper controlled by Ukraine, 32 settlements remain flooded, in which 3821 buildings went under water. On the occupied left bank, 14 settlements are still flooded. The roads connecting the villages are gradually drying up, however, it is noted that not all of them can be used yet. The average water level as of 14:30 Sunday is 4.01 m.
The breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. According to Western and Ukrainian experts, it was produced from inside her. As a result, a significant part of the Kherson region was flooded. Some settlements were completely under water, people and animals suffered. The Russian occupation authorities on the left bank do not allow volunteers to enter these territories and do not allow local residents to evacuate.
