In early June, 17-year-old Dmitry S. was detained in the Belgorod region, in the village of Krutoy Log. "Freedom of Russia".

According to investigators, Dmitry arrived in Krutoy Log on June 3. There he was going to cross the border outside the checkpoints and join the Ukrainian army, but was detained on the same day.

Now a criminal case has been initiated against him under the article “treason”.

In March, Russia's Supreme Court recognized the Freedom of Russia Legion as a terrorist organization. In April, a court in Belgorod sentenced Sergei Glushenkov to four and a half years in a strict regime colony, accused of "preparing to commit high treason." He was also detained while trying to cross the border with Ukraine in the Belgorod region in order (according to investigators) to join the "Legion" Freedom of Russia "" and start fighting for Ukraine.

The Freedom of Russia Legion is an armed formation in which, according to the Ukrainian authorities, captured Russian soldiers and volunteers with a Russian passport fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There is no independent confirmation of the real existence of the Legion.

Earlier, Ilya Ponomarev, a former deputy of the Russian State Duma, who received Ukrainian citizenship in 2019, spoke about the Legion “Freedom of Russia”. In April, a press conference was held at the office of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, at which several men in balaclavas identified themselves as members of this detachment.
