According to investigators, the fire happened due to the negligence of Chapaev, who was watching the welding work in the hold. Midshipman was found guilty of negligence with grave consequences.
He himself stated in his last word that he was still experiencing this tragedy and was ready to accept any decision of the garrison court.
Earlier, welder Arstan Begmanov was sentenced to four years in a colony-settlement in the case of a fire. Begmanov was convicted under an article on violation of safety rules during construction work, which resulted in death.
The fire on the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov occurred on December 12, 2019 during repairs on the cruiser. Two people were killed and 14 others were injured. Damage from the fire was estimated at 500 million rubles.
