More than 250 Russian officers with the rank above lieutenant colonel have died since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Mediazona writes .

An open source list maintained by the BBC and a team of volunteers has added 9 more high-ranking military names over the past two weeks. In total, since the beginning of the war, at least 251 Russian military men with the rank above lieutenant colonel have died.

It is reported that three such officers died on the territory of the Russian Federation. Of these, two were in the Belgorod region, during the repulse of an attack by the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), and another was killed by saboteurs in the fall of 2022 in the Kursk region. Public information about this appeared only recently.

In addition, on June 12, evidence appeared about the death of General, Chief of Staff of the 35th Combined Arms Army Sergei Goryachev. He became the fifth Russian general whose death in the war was confirmed.
