Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the continuation of the implementation of judicial reform. It was suspended after mass protests

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a cabinet meeting vowed to take "active steps" to implement legal reforms opposed by the opposition in the Knesset. According to him, negotiations on a compromise with its representatives did not lead to anything.

Last week, Israeli opposition leaders broke off negotiations with the government to form a panel that would appoint new judges.

Following the electoral victory last November of the nationalist-religious coalition led by Netanyahu, a judicial reform was announced that would deprive the country's Supreme Court of the ability to overturn laws and weaken the judiciary as a whole. This caused mass protests and riots, in which hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens took part.

Amid protests on March 27, Netanyahu announced a suspension of judicial reform. However, people continued to take to the streets, demanding the complete abolition of this initiative. On April 15, it was reported that protesters in Tel Aviv were dispersed with water cannons.
