The Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a citizen of Ukraine suspected of espionage in Nalchik, who "transmitted military information abroad." A video of the service was posted by Russian agencies, including RIA Novosti on Telegram.
According to the service, the 44-year-old detainee acted on instructions from the SBU. He collected and handed over to a member of a foreign intelligence service information of a military nature for their use against the security of Russia “under the conditions of a special military operation” (this is how the Russian authorities, propagandists, departments and government agencies call the war in Ukraine).
In Russia, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, citizens and employees of defense industry enterprises have been repeatedly detained on suspicion of “treason” or “espionage” in favor of Ukraine. Often, no details of the case, including the names of the suspects, are disclosed, the case materials are classified. Some of the detainees are being identified by journalists by interviewing their relatives, colleagues and neighbors.
In May, a design engineer who worked at an enterprise of the military-industrial complex (OPK) in Rostov-on-Don was arrested ; before that, he was detained in the case of "treason" in the form of espionage (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). A month earlier, FSB investigators had charged a Russian citizen, Dmitry Kicha, with "treason" in favor of foreign countries, who served as deputy head of the testing laboratory of the Promtekhnologiya weapons factory in the capital. The plant produces hunting and sporting rifles under the ORSIS brand. Also in April, the FSB detained a married couple in Nizhny Tagil for “espionage in the interests of Ukraine” at a military-industrial complex enterprise. They allegedly handed over secret information (drawings) to the special services of Ukraine for 100,000 rubles. Before that, in March, a resident of Khabarovsk was accused of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a case of "treason" was initiated.
