The number of people poisoned by shawarma in the Irkutsk region exceeded 101

The number of residents of Bratsk, Irkutsk region, who were poisoned by shawarma in the Shawarma I want fast food cafe, has grown to 101, of which 22 are children. This was announced by the Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev in his official Telegram channel.

According to Kobzev, 51 people had to be hospitalized. There are no severe cases of poisoning, seven patients have already been discharged. Specialists of the regional Rospotrebnadzor conducted an epidemiological investigation, during which they found out that the employees of the institution did not observe hygiene, prepared dishes and stored food with violations.

Earlier, the city court of Bratsk placed the owner of the Shawarma I Want cafe under house arrest. A criminal case has been initiated under Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production, storage, marketing of products that do not meet safety requirements).

In early June, 32 people died in Russia after poisoning with the alcohol-containing drink "Mr. Cider" in different regions: in the Ulyanovsk, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza regions and in Udmurtia. In total, more than 100 people were injured, some of them are in hospitals in different regions with symptoms of poisoning. Impurities of methanol and ethyl butyrate were found in cider. Alcohol for the drink was stolen from the warehouse of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was stored there after being seized since 2012.
