The Pentagon said it overestimated the cost of military assistance provided to Ukraine by $6.2 billion

The U.S. Department of Defense has overestimated the value of weapons delivered to Ukraine over the past two years by about $6.2 billion. According to the Associated Press, citing Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, the resulting surplus will be used to provide further military assistance.

According to her, when checking the accounting documents, it turned out that in the calculations, instead of the cost of the supplied weapons, the cost of new weapons received on the balance of the ministry instead of those sent to Ukraine was used. Kyiv received weapons from the Pentagon warehouses, which were purchased earlier and cost less – at least because of depreciation.

The fact that the Pentagon recalculated the cost of military aid sent to Ukraine became known in May. After the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, Washington provided about $40 billion worth of military assistance to Kyiv.
