The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized WWF as an “undesirable” organization

The Prosecutor General's Office has recognized the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as an undesirable organization in Russia, RIA Novosti reports .

Previously, WWF was recognized as a "foreign agent" in Russia. The agency explained the reasons for this decision as follows: “Under the guise of activities to protect nature and the environment, the biological diversity of species, representatives of the fund tried to influence the decisions of the executive and legislative authorities of the Russian Federation, hindered the implementation of industrial and infrastructure projects.”

Also on May 19, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia recognized the activities of the activist environmental organization Greenpeace as "undesirable".

At the end of April, the Russian Ecological Society (REO) asked to recognize Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as "foreign agents". The latter actually received this status as a result, but Greenpeace faced more serious consequences, since “undesirable” organizations are prohibited from operating in Russia. The chairman of the REO, Rashid Ismailov, said that he had encountered "unfriendly actions" by Greenpeace and WWF. Both organizations allegedly form "negative public opinion about the actions of the Russian government and companies in the field of nature conservation":

“There was a case when Greenpeace showed a fake image from space of water off the coast of Kamchatka for subsequent false accusations. This has a destructive effect on public opinion, forms false ideas about the work of the authorities. And this is not ecology, but politics.”
