The mother of a mobilized man who died in a camp near Lugansk said that her son was tortured by the military police

In a tent camp near Lugansk, they found the body of a conscript who, a month before his death, told his mother that he had been tortured by the military police. According to the official version, he committed suicide, the Public Verdict reports .

40-year-old resident of the Irkutsk region Viktor Efremenko was mobilized in the fall of 2022. On May 9, his mother, Nina Efremenko, received a call from the military unit and was informed that Viktor allegedly hanged himself in the toilet. The woman told human rights activists that she did not believe in the suicide version. She said that she talked with her son on the phone the day before and he asked her to help buy equipment, made plans for the future. Efremenko believes that her son was killed.

On April 11, Viktor was hospitalized with broken ribs. The mobilized man told his mother that he had been beaten by the military police. “They hung him up by his hands, beat him with sticks, tied him around his neck and dragged him around the tent, burned him with a stun gun. They mocked him as punishment for violating official discipline, ”the woman said.
